Encode and decode Base64 online with MCYG’s free Base64 Encoder & Decoder. Enter text or Base64 data to convert it instantly, with Auto Detect, Encode, and Decode modes.

Base64 is an encoding format commonly used to represent data using a limited set of characters. It is often used when data needs to be represented as text, such as in web applications, APIs, configuration data, and other developer workflows.

A Base64 encoder converts text into Base64-encoded data, while a Base64 decoder converts valid Base64 data back into text.

Using the Base64 tool is simple:

  1. Enter or paste text or Base64 data into the Input editor.
  2. Choose the desired mode using the Mode button.
  3. Click Convert to process the input.
  4. Review the converted result in the Output area.
  5. Click Copy to copy the result.

The tool provides three modes:

  • Auto Detect — Automatically determines whether the input can be treated as Base64 and decodes it when detected as Base64; otherwise, it encodes the input.
  • Encode — Forces the input to be encoded as Base64.
  • Decode — Forces the input to be decoded from Base64.
  • Encode Base64 — Convert text into Base64.
  • Decode Base64 — Convert valid Base64 data back into text.
  • Auto Detect — Automatically choose between encoding and decoding based on the input.
  • Encode Mode — Explicitly encode the entered input.
  • Decode Mode — Explicitly decode the entered input.
  • Convert — Process the current input using the selected mode.
  • Copy output — Copy the converted result for use elsewhere.
  • Clear input — Clear the current input and output.
  • Input and output statistics — View the character count of the input and generated output.
  • Conversion status — See whether the current operation is idle, encoded, decoded, automatically decoded, automatically encoded, cleared, or resulted in an error.

Use Encode Mode when you want to explicitly convert text into Base64.
